The Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) envisages coverage of the border villages on northern border having sparse population, limited connectivity and infrastructure, which often get left out from the development gains. VVP aims for convergence of existing schemes under the State and Central Government schemes.
The participation and responsibility of the Panchayat and Gram Sabha in the administration at the Central, State, District and Block-levels are important for the success of the Scheme and same will be ensured. All the schemes have been prepared in an integrated and coordinated manner for 100% implementation.
The successful implementation can improve the standard of living of the people of the border villages and encourage them to stay in their places, which will prevent migration from these villages and also strengthen the security of the border.
The Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the 'Vibrant Village Programme' and it has been announced in the Finance Minister’s Budget Speech 2022. The Central Government contribution for the FY 2022-23 to 2025-26 is Rs. 4,800 crores, which includes Rs. 2500 crore specifically for road connectivity.
As of now, a total of 2,967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts along the northern border in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Ladakh have been identified for comprehensive development under the 'Vibrant Villages Programme'. It will be implemented in 3 phases.
